Eagle River is a community located 15 minutes north of the city of Anchorage.  It’s named after the Eagle River which runs through town with parts of Eagle River on both sides of the river.  Eagle River and has a history dating back to 1939 with the official Post Office becoming established in 1961.  Local points of interest include Fort Richardson and Elmendorf Air Force Base and the Chugach Mountains.  Eagle River has the honor of being the first checkpoint for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.    With a few minute drive to Anchorage, living in Eagle River is a perfect place to call home. 

Eagle River is complete with all the amenities.  The area has all the major shopping, restaurants and medical facilities and in 2006 Eagle River reopened a multi-screen movie theater.  The area continues to grow and more and more popular shops and restaurants are calling Eagle River home.  Each month the area of Eagle River receives an update on local events from the free newspaper, The Eagle River Cache.

Eagle River has many annual events and Lion’s Park is the host for several events.  This park hosts events like the Highland Games (in June), the Fourth of July celebration, and the Bear Paw Festival (mid July).  The Bear Paw Festival is a huge event that includes the Miss Bear Paw pageant, a parade, Slippery Salmon Derby, Iditaduck race, carnival and much more.   The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is also an attraction each year in Eagle River.

Eagle River is surrounded by unbelievable beauty.  The colors of the outdoors will take your breathe away.  The Eagle River Nature Center promotes the outdoor life and beauty of the local area.  Many trails are available for all sorts of outdoor activities including, bike trails, jogging and cross country skiing.   MacDonald Ice Rink is available for anyone interested in hockey or ice skating.
