Anchorage Alaska is the largest city in Alaska with about a quarter of a million residents. In 2002, Anchorage was recognized as one of of America's All-American City by the National Civic League. Anchorage is a large city with an estimated 1,955 sq. miles. Surrounded by six mountain ranges, Chugach, Kenai, Talkeetna, Tordrillo, Aleutian and Alaska mountain ranges from Anchorage. On a clear day, Mount McKinley can be seen north of downtown. Anchorage is a thriving city with well maintained trails that help keep the balance of nature and city life.
The wildlife in Anchorage is abundant. It's estimated that over 1,500 moose live in the city limits. It's common to see black bears, brown bears, grizzlies bears, orca whales and even many different types of birds on any of the shared trails. If you would like to see a buffalo or reindeer, the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center would be the perfect way to spend a day.
